We decided to gut the kitchen and have it redone before we move in. Besides the fact that it is right out of the 1970's, it is not laid out well and Steve and I like to cook together. We have to gut it in order to place the appliances in the proper space.
How frustrating! I was on total pins and needles and it only took a few days to work thru the deal. Let us know how it goes!Originally Posted by jennyranson
Well done! I look forward to seeing more pix on your moving day! I am still waiting on my offer, it has been a week now and the estate agent just stalls me. I am afraid she is showing it to others to try and get a better offer without telling me, though she said at first the owners were waiting to see if their bid on a new place was accepted.
My current house is 100 years old and we lived with that kitchen for about 5 years before we started to do anything with it. Fortunately it was a large kitchen, so we dealt with it. My bet is that the cabinets were from the 1940's, the flooring and countertops from the mid 1960's. I know exactly what you have! The new house kitchen probably has the same cabinet space, but the floor space in the middle is a lot smaller. Both are "U" shaped but my current is square where the new one is long and skinny. Makes the "2 butt pass" difficult when you are sharing the cookspace with the hubby.Originally Posted by Russian Blue
We purchased a 100 year old house 2 years ago which we are currently renovating. it will probably be at least another 2 years before we are finished because of all the projects. We will also be renovating our kitchen this summer. I bet my kitchen looks worse than your kitchen! You're so lucky to be able to renovate it before moving in.
Nakita has become a renovation cat and doesn't even flinch when we tear down a wall or use a power tool. It's all in a day's work for her.
