I was also born in 1968, and I have already told a few people I am going to be 40 on my next birthday.
Then I was like "Wait a minute, no I'm not!"

I used to work with someone that never knew how old she was. She would ask us all the time.

Funny story...

My mother did the same thing, only with 40. The whole year that she was 39, she thought she was 40 and was really mad at us for not doing anything special for her big birthday. Well, of course we DID do a big surprise party for her 40th birthday and she actually sat and argued with us that she wasn't 40, she was 41! Until we explained a little basic math (1982-1942 = 40 years, Mom!), and then she was so embarrased and told us how she had been mad for a whole year, and laughed at herself more than anyone else.

Your not a dork... I almost had a huge 25th wedding aniversary for my parents 1 year too early. I think the problem is that people count the day they were born at the first year, but you don't have your first birthday or aniversary until the next year.

Hehe... it's not really deliberate as such, but I started telling people I was 30 when I hit 27. Now I'm 35 I tell people I'm 'heading towards 40'. I can't stand all this idealising of youth that you see in a lot of magazines and on TV, as if we're supposed to stay young forever. I've always thought of wisdom and experience as being more valuable than a smooth skin, and I hated my 20s anyway, my 30s are a lot better and I'm looking forward to hitting 40
