Howdy all:

Thiugh I live in Southern California now, I lived in Ohio and grew up there, in the Cleveland area.

It’s been nine and a half years since I’ve visited though I have friends and family still there.

The specific trigger for the trip was a high school reunion.

Flew over to Cleveland last Wednesday.

Mom and dad bought the house my brother inherited in 1970, in Euclid, on the east side of Cleveland.

Still solid, still standing, like the big oak tree in the backyard. It’s a black oak, about 100 feet tall and as wide, having attained vigorous maturity uninjured by electric company butchery.

Former Ohioan here. :wave2: I grew up outside of Columbus but haven’t been back since my mom died in 2018. I wish I had taken a few passes through town and gotten photos as you have before I finished wrapping up her affairs. Nice memories!

Last time I was back was in 2014 in the spring, making it nine and a half years.

Euclid was founded as an Ohio township in 1796, then was a farming community, until its population exploded after WW II and the Baby Boom that followed it. Now, however, there’s a much much lower number of students, and the schools were downsized accordingly.

The infamous Russell Irwine Elementary school was torn down, and the land left fallow.

doomsdave doomsdave my Uncle lived in Cleveland. I was probably a young teen the last time I was there. I'm about 2 hours away. I think we may have talked on a random thread about the Euclid mall and other things?
On the schools changing or disappearing...pretty strange feeling, isn't it? The school I attended elementary in was rebuilt (it opened for the first time this school year), I believe the original was built in the 1920's. The school I attended during Jr. High and High school is still there, but has had such a huge remodel I barely recognized it in photos. I can still map out the old school in my mind. I'd like to keep it that way.
I hope you're enjoying your visit. :)

A good friend and his wife live on a couple acres in Willoughby Hills, east of Cleveland. It’s mostly forest.
