So an evening or two ago, my boyfriend and I were driving home when we noticed a bunny crouched at the side of the road. People kept stopping to look at it, so we did too, and it was still very much alive and obviously had been hit by a car.
I think it's pelvis was shattered, and there was a gash (strangely not bloody) on its leg. In spite of everyone stopping to gawk, it just sat there, eyes half shut, breathing.
So we made the decision to bring him to the 24 hour emergency vet and have him euthanized... When cars drove by it tried to hop away, but it ended up just flopping around on the ground.. It didn't even struggle or try to get away when we picked him up with a towel and put him in the box to carry him.
Ugh.. I think I made the right decision. I think it was better than being hit by a car or eaten by one of the many raccoons around there, but.. I don't know. I tried to imagine being the bunny and just broke down. -.- It was not a fun night.
