While I was driving home last night, I saw a small body by the side of the road. I parked my car in a nearby car park and went over to see if I could be of any help to the little one.
I ran to where the body was knowing that time was of the essence. Sadly, I was too late. The soul had departed from the body long before I had seen it. There was no collar around the neck but still I looked for one in case it had snapped off in the final moments but to no avail.
I went back to my car and grabbed a bag to place the little one's body in. What I wasn't prepared for was the blood or the smell. In the end I used another bag. I didn't care that my grocery shopping was sitting on the car floor. I placed the limp body on the car seat. I couldn't bear to leave her on the floor of my car as I drove.
My partner and I buried her in the bush. I told her that she hadn't been forgotten by anyone in this cruel world. I apologised for not finding her in time and assired her that her time at the Rainbow Bridge would be pleasant and to not be afraid.
The little one was a Siamese kitten, no more than 4 months old. Her fur was soft and her markings made her a princess. Yet no human will come forward and say that she was loved by them. She wasn't wanted and was left to fend for herself and forgotten by someone who did not care that the wind now chills the bone.
I will remember her and in her memory I will not falter in helping other animals in need.
