My cat (well it's one of my Mum's cats, but I am currently living at home) had 4 kittens on Monday and I woke up this morning (Wednesday) to find them all dead in the nest. I can only assume that the Mother was not producing enough milk, as she never left them except to go to the toilet and seemed to be acting suitably maternal so I figured all was normal.
I was literally in pieces this morning (for the Mother cat mainly), and after an hour or so I managed to pull myself together and noticed she seemed to have lost interest in the nest and was downstairs eating from the normal food bowl instead of the one I put next to her nest so I removed the dead kittens and have buried them in the garden. This nearly killed me and I was blubbering like a baby (I am a 26 year old man)
The problem I am now facing is that now the Mother cat seems to have become interested in the nest again and is sitting in there wide awake.... just sitting.
I don't know what to do? She's never really been massively affectionate so I don't want to try and take her away and bring her in to my room as I know this will agitate her. And to top it all off, one of my other cats seems to be acting aggressively toward her - hissing and growling every time she sees her (incidentally this is also the Mother-in-questions Mother and the Grandmother of said dead kittens)
I really could use some helpful advice from someone who has experienced something similar
And yes, before anyone suggests, I will be getting her spayed ASAP.
Thank you in advance.
