One of my female cats (I have 5 cats) has been having a certain issue going back years. She is about 16. About 8 years ago, I kept her in the downstairs part of the house with the other cats. She began eliminating in high inappropriate places. Usually in things up on shelves etc. I figured she was doing it because she had become intimidated by the other cats and was fearful of getting down on the floor near them so she chose elevated places instead. I then put her in the upstairs part of the house alone. She was happy with this and started using the litterbox again. Recently (like in the last 6 months or so) she started eliminating in inappropriate places again even though she was alone. She started doing things like peeing in the coils on the stove. When you'd go to cook something, the smell of heated pee would fill the air. She also started going on the countertop and in the dish drainer. I then brought her back downstairs because I read that it could be from being alone too much and it could be separation anxiety. Since she has been brought downstairs (where I am most of the time) she is going in inappropriate places again. She was pooping in one corner so I put a litterbox there. She found a favorite spot and it seems like she is finding places nearby to go and then going back to her spot. I just found a saturated rug that I just picked up and cleaned the floor underneath. She pooped in my clothes basket which I have since moved and covered. I have to put my shoes up on something so that she doesn't pee in them. I just bought another litterbox and put it near her spot to see if she uses it. I also tried one of those pheromone collarS on her about a month ago but it didn't really affect anything. I don't know what to do about her. I am not putting her to sleep. She is not sick. She has been doing this off and on for years. I don't believe in putting an animal to sleep unless they are very sick and it is preventing their suffering.
