I just did up my budget for the time I'll be off work.
I have 4 pay cheques before I go off work on 6 weeks unpaid sick leave. Today plus 3 more, with the last one being the day after my surgery.
I was a bit worried about not having any income for that period of time. I will be able to apply for unemployment sick leave, but by the time I get any money from them I'll likely be back at work, so I can't count on having it while I'm actually off work.
But I've been watching my pennies and have come up with a budget that will see me comfortably through those 6 weeks, so at least that is a load off of my mind.
And if needed, work said they would pay me out my vacation time, which is 2 weeks. Of course if I go that route I'm not going to ask for it until I'm actually off work and on unpaid time, that will ensure that it comes to me a separate pay cheque, otherwise it would come on one of my regular pay cheques which means losing more than 50% of it to taxes!
