I should post my pics of the nasty stuff that comes out of my bagless vac! I'm not kidding, there's enough fur each time, I could make cat #10, instead of waiting for the next stray to show up on my doorstep! Luckily, I installed wood laminate flooring 2 years ago, and, except for 2 bedrooms, which DH insisted on carpeting, only have 2 large area rugs to vacuum. (I sweep the flooring, and Swiffer it.) I use my vac in conjunction with my Dust Buster (especially on the stairs--which used to be carpeted; we removed that, painted them, and put carpeted stair treads there. I can removed those, and wash them every so often.) When I obtained cat #3, I got fed up with wall-to-wall carpet! Hobbes has accidents (he get scared of loud noises, such as thunder), plus he's very old. That's why I installed the laminate and tile flooring. It makes an extra cleaning step, but I don't have to worry about urine seeping into the flooring, and leaving a smell.
Other folks kid-proof their houses; I had to cat-proof mine...
Even so, I'm seriously considering the Dyson. I don't think my area rugs get clean enough.
