My sweet Coco girl had a possible thyroid tumor removed this morning. She has been hyper-t for the past 2 years. Up until December, tapazole was controlling it well. We've been fighting a losing battle since Dec. with increasing dosages and rising T4 levels and weight loss. At her monthly T4 check Monday, her levels now were just as bad as they were pre-diagnosis in 2010. She was on 7.5 mg in the morning and 5 mg at night. Both vets found a lump in her neck that had not been felt previously. It was near the thyroid gland. We had it removed this morning.
I talked to the vet when he called to let me know she was out of surgery. He said it was a 1.5 cm x 1.5 cm mass near her thyroid, but not attached to it. They are sending it to Auburn for pathology. He seems to think the proximity to the thyroid could have been what was causing the rising levels. We will keep her on tapazole until path comes back and recheck her levels in 2 weeks. Am I crazy to hope this might finally be the fix for my kitty's crazy thyroid?
