There are two ways to post pictures here, by remote linking them from another website, and by attaching them to a post. Due to the sheer number of members, we prefer that you remote link your pictures.

To remote link your photos, you need to have them stored on a website that allows remote linking. There are many free websites that you can use, and most Internet Service Providers include webspace in your service agreement. Just ask them about it! If you are a member of AOL, you can host your pictures there under Keyword Publish 123. Another service that allows remote linking is www.photobucket.com. Image Magician is free, but they do ask for donations to keep their site running. Please note that Tripod and ImageStation do not allow remote linking.

To post your picture using remote linking, be sure that you have the web address for the photo, not just the page where the photo is located. To find this, right mouse click on the picture and choose “Properties†then copy the web address found in the Properties box. When you are posting here, click on the “IMG†button above the box where you type your reply and paste the web address of your picture in the pop up box.

To post from your computer: Please note you must have Adult Cat status (100 posts, member for 30 days) to be able to attach images directly from your computer to the site. Prior to Adult Cat status, you can remote link to your heart's content. First, please refer to this thread for space restrictions of photos uploaded directly to the site. If your pictures are too large, you have to reduce the size in a photo editing program. There is a pretty good Freeware program that I use, which you can download at www.irfanview.com . The instructions for reducing the size here are directly for Irfanview, but any photo editing program like Picture It, Photoshop, even Paint will work (for Paint, it is under Image, Attributes)

Open your picture using Irfanview or other photo editing program, then go into the Image pulldown menu. Select "Resize/Resample" and in the first set of boxes on the left side of the window, make the largest side of your picture 400 pixels. Generally, as long as the picture is less than 400x400 pixels, you should be fine to post here. It also has to be less than 33Kb in size, so if you have the choice, save it on Medium or Low detail, and as JPG. BMP format does not work.

To add the pic to your post (you can only attach one pic per post using this method), just below the Options section in your posting window is Attach File: Click the Browse button and open your picture as you would in any other program.

If you post from your computer and you Preview your picture, you will have to repeat the Browse process. I know that at one point we were having problems with seeing the pic in the Preview, so you may just have to take a leap of faith and just Submit Reply with the picture attached.

To post your picture using remote linking:
To remote link your photos, you need to have them stored on a website that allows remote linking or if you have your own web site, upload you picture to your own FTP. Upload you image to your web site or FTP. When you are done uploading the image, the web address to access your picture should look something like this (this is a fake address): http://www.MyWebAddress/mypicture.jpg. It is important to put a forward slash (/) after the web address, then type the title of your image after the back slash. Be careful not to add spaces!

When you want to post a picture in a thread, click on the “IMG†button:

Next, a dialog box or "pop up" box will appear.... this is where you type or paste the web address of your picture.

To post from your computer:
Open your picture using a photo editing program. Select "Resize/Resample" or "Image Size" in the pull down menu. Make the largest side of your picture 400 pixels. Generally, as long as the picture is less than 400x400 pixels, you should be fine to post here. It also has to be less than 33Kb in size, so if you have the choice, save it on Medium or Low detail, and as JPG. BMP format does not work.

To add the pic to your post (you can only attach one pic per post using this method), just below the Options section in your posting window is Attach File: Click the Browse button to locate your graphic:

Next, a dialog box or "pop up" box will appear.... now you can scroll through your computer, retrieve the picture you want to use:

Putting pictures in your signature lines is easy once you get the remote linking thing figured out.

Remote linking is the ONLY way to post pictures in your signature.

When you are logged in, click the User CP button at the top of the forum, then Edit Profile. About halfway down is where you put whatever you want into your signature. To put a picture there, follow the instructions in the first 2 posts of this thread for Remote Linking. The only difference is that you have to manually type in the .... (no spaces in the brackets) around the web address where your picture can be found.

Please see this link for detailed step by step instructions with illustrations on How to Post Sigs in 10 Easy Steps. Many thanks to Cindy a.k.a. Rosehawke for this valuable resource!

We do have standards for signatures that we ask everyone to abide by. As stated in our Rules:

9. Every member enjoys personalizing their posts with a unique signature. In order to speed forum loading time and avoid excessive scrolling for all members, we have instituted these guidelines for signatures.
 • Total file size no greater than 30 Kb (30,000 bytes). This is a total size, whether you have a single image or multiple images.
 • Height of signature can be no greater than 150 pixels at 72dpi. This obviously refers to images. You may have up to 4 lines of standard size text, single-spaced.
 • In general, if you have an image banner, no other text, ticker, smilie, etc. will be allowed. Exceptions may occur if your image is smaller than 150 pixels in height.
 • You may include a discreet link to another site in your signature. You may not advertise your site in the main body of your post.
 • Member signatures are subject to review and deletion by the moderating team without advance warning.
 • All signatures are subject to the same rules and regulations as any post, and are subject to the same disciplinary actions and editing by moderators if it is deemed necessary, up to and including banning.
You may notice some really neat signatures around here made by our talented members. If you would like one made for you, please see this thread for members who are willing to create signature images.
