Last time vet took a blood sample he had to anesthetize Mati with gas. She's been anemic and am now seriously considering giving her a transfusion if the next lab indicate needing it. Only issue is that she'd need sedation for the labs and the transfusion. Has anyone here done this with an elderly cat? What was the outcome? I totally don't want to over-stress her or give her something that would only make things worse. Thoughts?

You should always check with your vet to see if s/he recommends gabapentin for your kitty’s situation. That said, my 18-year-old Iris gets gabapentin daily for the debilitating pain of arthritis. It doesn’t sedate her anymore because she’s been taking it for so long, but it certainly did initially!

Thanks. Someone just mentioned this as being an option to having to anesthetize my feline for every procedure. Will have to see if this would be do-able with this vet.
