As a kid in the 60's, I recall sometimes going to Burger Chef for lunch, sometimes the Dairy Bar after church on Sundays but very rarely overall. As a family, we probably went out to eat dinner about once or twice a month. It was considered an extravagance. And back then there weren't nearly as many restaurants as there are now. Most meals were home cooked. She also made ONE dessert per week, like a cake or a pie. When that was gone you had to wait until next week for dessert.
