I was sure I'd seen this discussed here before but searching did not bring me any useful results. Can someone please answer? Is there a difference depending on the game? Deer, was actually the meat in question. Thanks

The times shown above are for the maximum time for Best Flavor.  These cuts of venison will be edible for a much longer time, but the quality and taste will diminish over time.

Thanks. I don't mean how long it will keep. I mean how long will it need to be frozen, before being safe to feed raw. (To kill possible parasites) :)

sorry. i misunderstood your question. i don't know about deer, just fish. The FDA requires that all fish (with the exception of tuna) destined to be served raw in the U.S. be frozen at a minimum of minus four degrees Fahrenheit for seven days or minus thirty-one degrees for fifteen hours.

I don't think it was depending on the game, but three weeks is needed to kill trichinella. I don't know if that is a parasite potentially in deer meat.
