I've known very healthy people who have lived long lives and never ate meat. However, you do have to have some knowledge of nutrition. You need to be sure legumes are included in your diet; without that, you won't get enough protein.

I don't think that's necessarily true. I was a vegetarian from 1986-1996. I desired meat, but wasn't nutritionally deficeint in protien. Sometimes I desire potato chips and chocolate...The fact that a vegetarian is desiring to eat meat, something not typically in their diet, is a red flag that their body is lacking in some nutrition.
