not all male tom cats will kill the kittens u just get the odd one that does but it is a normal trait in domestic cats ive only heard of it happening when the mother cat is not around most of the time if there is a mother cat present males wont dare touch the kittens
when i was growing up at a horse barn i saw a jack russel going after 2 kittens it all happened so fast no one was able to get involved but the dog was clearly trying to catch and shake these 2 young cats and out of no where a tom cat got in the middle of it and SHREDED the dog. IT was a horrific site and i was shocked at first i thought it must be the mother until i saw it had balls
