When I left my sister late yesterday afternoon, she was holding him in her arms like she would never let him go.
Liam is the little stray baby that a woman in my office building found and had pleaded with me to take home. We thought Liam was a girl; both my BIL and I checked the kitten out on Friday night and we saw no "nubbins". But the ER vet checked and.....well, I do not know how to sex kittens, that's for sure.
My BIL and I talked a lot this past week. We simply didn't know what to do. Finally he told me to talk to the woman and we'd go see the kitten. On Friday night, we waited until Rick left for the football game and my sister left for her meeting. And then we went over. And "she" took our hearts.
When my sister came home from her meeting on Friday night, she called me in tears. She was so concerned about the little kitten and she said that it needed a home and she wanted "her". So on Saturday morning, my BIL and I picked "her" up and took "her" home. My sister took "her" out of the crate, held "her" in her arms, and the tears came.
And up to the ER vet we went. And found how that she was really a he. We just looked at each other and I started to cry....I knew they might have issues with a boy because Whiskeys sprays. And I can't take him. Liam has a bit of an upper respiratory infection and is on Amoxi (the vet wasn't real worried about that, but we are), he has a bit of eye issues (which drops are already taking care of), I gave him his worm pill before I went home last night, and we popped the Frontline module for him and stuck that around the back of his neck. He weighs almost two pounds, so the vet said he was probably around two months old or so. Perfectly weaned and he fits purrrrectly in my sister's arms.
(When we found out that he was a he, I texted the woman; she said we can bring him back to her, but somehow, I don't think Sandy has even thought about that....he is hers now.)
Liam looks like Mollipop did when she was a baby, except I think he might be darker. And he has little ear tufts that are just adorable.
He's in the same cage that Tabby was in when she first came in our house. There's plenty of room for him. They gate off their kitchen and let him run around the kitchen at times, too. But that's all he can do right now....there are three other cats.
Whiskeys is their kitty who sprays. The vet suggested Feliway, so we'll get plug-ins for their main floor and the second floor....that's the two floors the cats have ready access to; they're not really allowed into the attic that much (their attic is completely finished).
The vet also said that, in his experience, introducing boys to boys is easier than introducing girls to boys. In my own case, BooBoo will accept girls better than boys, but both with BooBoo and yesterday with Whiskeys, accepting kittens seems to work the best. (As much as I would love to bring in older cats, Boo simply won't allow it.) Whiskeys came into the kitchen while Liam was in the cage; he sniffed carefully, then went over to his mom and said, "Hey! Dinner??" Midnight hissed, but he'll come around. And Goof doesn't care one way or the other...she just wants to be left alone.
My sister really did need this kitten. And my BIL and I were so worried about her.
Oh and she asked me about the little girls down at the vet. I told her and I showed her their pictures. I have a sneaky feeling that, in about another month or so....my sister and BIL are going to become proud parents of two feline baby girls.
I know I've posted a lot about Lily this past week and now I'm posting about Liam. May I please ask for vibes that Liam stays healthy and that the URI goes away? My sister thanks you and I thank you, too. And thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.
