I'm currently fostering a cat. Cat, yep that's what I call him I don't name 'em if I can't keep 'em, showed up Oct. 6, 2 weeks to the day my beloved 17 year old dog passed away.
I live on my neighbor's property waayyy out in the country on a dirt road. My neighbors have been seeing a grey cat wearing a collar around for the past month or so, they were shooting over his head hoping to drive him away from the property since they have 2 outdoor cats, but Cat wouldn't leave. Last week I finally spotted him right before dark, at first I thought he was a rabbit, then I looked closer and thought maybe it's the cat so I called to him. He meowed and came trotting up, so I pet him a bit and got up to go inside and he followed me, after holding the door open for a minute he came in.
He's the sweetest little cat. He's a grey, neutered, tabby, in good body condition, with clear eyes, and clean ears and coat. He's litter box trained, doesn't get on my counters, or stove, and hasn't clawed the furniture unless he's kneeding. The collar turns out to be an old one it was blue but has totally faded to pink. That collar likely saved his life, if it wasn't for it my neighbor's would have shot to kill.
Unfortunately I cannot keep him. He wants to fight my neighbors cats, he will not stay inside, and even if he would I cannot have an inside only pet come summer. If the electricity goes out and AC isn't running my place heats up like a car will. I cannot leave an animal alone here come summer. Right now I'm spending my days following him around outside keeping him out of trouble with the neighbors cat. Today I learned he'll happily follow me down the road much like a dog will LOL. If I keep him in during the day he caterwauls and claws the door to get out..
No one around here owns him, I've been to all the neighbors on my road, no one has reported a lost cat to the local shelter, so far I haven't managed to get him to the vet to be scanned for a chip then health checked, I don't drive and my neighbors haven't been able to give me a ride, until I do that he'll stay with me. I won't rehome him till I do that.
Hopefully he has an owner out there that simply lost him and some fool idiot without a heart didn't dump him off in the country. It's by the grace of God that my neighbors didn't decide to simply shoot him.
