Hi. i found this place looking for help and at a lost for my poor Mollison..
I have this whole story i can type of about what has happened since day one but most important is where she is at now...
I've taken her to the same vet 3-4 times now for exams and tests and rechecks after another. Where this starts is day one I noticed our 3 year old girl wasn't eating and drinking.. she slept in the same spot all day with little energy. I gave her chicken or wet foods, but she only ate the wet parts. This prompted several vet visits.. day after day she is still in same condition, not improving but not declining. The vet tells me to bring her back for rechecks for additional exams etc. Her fever stayed consistent at 103-104 for maybe 4-5 days in a row. After the 3rd visit, they prompted to hospitize her for the day, took bloodwork and xrays and they also gave her a catheter for fluids and antibiotics. Her Respiratory Rate was avg 40 on her chart and her heart beat was 210-220 for each of the 4 visits.
The part is most concerning part to me is the 4th visit, the Dr. advised to keep the catheter in her arm overnight, bring her home and then to bring her back the next day for more fluids to reduce the fever. When I brought her home, I picked her up and noticed this saggy sack of fluids in her chest/upper arm. I let her be for the night and the next morning she wasn't warm to the touch like she was previously with the fever but the sack had hardened. I immediately took her back to the vet, I told them my concern and they called me back later that day saying they did an ultrasound, took a sample of the growth and did a biopsy? or whatever. She looked at the sample in a microscope, said she couldn't find anything she can diagnose so they sent it to a specialist lab. The next day I got the results and it was a bunch of medical jargon saying it could be this or that and to get more tests done.. they used the word spindle cell tumor but then said they can not determine if its benign or malignant. They gave her Cerenia although I told them she is not using the litter and sent me home with some to give her the next few days. I think back of every chance they had to charge me for this or another, but this instance, they did the ultrasound and test on the sample themselves and said they arent going to charge me. I took it as a charity or being generous to not charge that they saw that it was a time sensitive matter, but thinking about it now, I wonder if they did it because I questioned that it came up because of negligence from the catheter.. ?
Okay, ive rambled on, trying to get to the point where we are at today... A few days have gone by and her arm is swelling .. which eventually went down to her paw. The growth seemed to have grown slightly as well, which is pretty significant in size for her small body, that is already scrawny from lack of nutrients and eating. She ate pieces of chicken once but still back to only liquids from anything we give her. But her arm is swollen, and with that, we took her back to the same vet, raised our concern, and the doctor said that its not because of the catheter, she said they didn't do anything wrong. She is now telling me that it is cancerous (although no new tests were done to tell her that) and that she needs to do another xray to see if it spread to her lungs. She literally said in front of me saying that if it spread to her lungs, that Mollison will not live through it otherwise if its not spread to her lungs, then we could look at options to amputate her arm which will be very expensive and cost over $5-6000 dollars after we do this and that and the other. So I broke down right then, I didn't expect to but she told me that I now have to spend more money (on another xray) to determine if she is going to die right away from the lung infection or if we can possibly save her life if its not in her lungs, and go the amputating route. Later that day with the results of the xrays I earlier approved, she tells me there are lymph nodes in her lungs and they can do more tests blah blah blah. I took my cat and ran from them. But on the diagnostic, she didnt advise to give her any medicine, pain meds or anything for her that day.
Here is my question, from allll this... Was the vet careless and negligent? That growth that they called a tumor was not there the day before we let them put the catheter in her. Well, if it was, it was not the slightest bit noticeable, even on her frail body. Her arm is swollen and I begin to wonder if this is edema from the IV. Also, her lack of eating, could this be do to lymph nodes in her throat? Her lack of eating doesn't seem to be do to lack of appetite, I look at her and she clearly shows difficulty in eating bites.. she sits up and is bright eyed when I put food in front of her, however it looks like she just cant because she kicks the pieces out of her mouth, as if she gags on it. She shows absolutely no signs of pain whatsoever. Either shes a tough kitty and is so gentle or she hides it like none other. She does not meow at all, she does not wimper. In fact, she only meowed and try to prevent me from putting her into the carrier taking her to the vet. She walks around a bit still when she has energy, especially after I give her a couple drops of cbd. She hasnt groomed herself really, but the CBD gave her the energy to clean her face using both arms, even the swollen one and she cleaned her chest. I can hold her swollen paw, feel her growth to see if its changing and she does not flinch at all, doesn't even bat an eye or put her eyes back when touching her arm or growth. I hate to think she is in pain because that hurts my heart, but if she is, then she hides it. If she isn't, then I am so confused.
She is 3 years old and has 2 sisters from that litter, as well as her mom and dad. One of the sisters is because the most caring for her and sleeping with her, oh so caring. I have an appt with an oncologist in a couple days, vet appts are hard to come by around here but almost wondering if an ER will be just as effective if they can determine the truth about what happened.. whether it was indeed her body getting infected with a tumor or the first vet hurt her.
Naturally I am looking at every possibility here to understand, thinking of anything that has been done or could be done without maliciously casting blame... I just want to help this poor baby and make sense of how it escalated literally overnight.. overnight from the day she started losing energy and overnight from the vets catheter visit that inflamed the growth and swollen arm.
Any advise, recommendation, insight, correction or prayers & positive thoughts are more than welcomed <3
