Help with stray....Nail fugus ?

A stray I care for had one front nail that looked brownish growing strange toward his pad. I trimmed it and it was brittle. A few weeks later he had his paws on the glass door and I saw some black area. Checked the nail I trimmed and where the pink quick should be was black. Did a web search and was wondering if it is nail fungus. What could I put on the nail to help so it wont get infected and to clear it up.Thanks for any help that you can give.

Sorry you haven't gotten any responses...probably because of the holiday weekend...OR maybe because no one has any ideas

   I know I certainly don't.  Anything you put on there he's probably going to lick off, so it might not do much good.  Can you call your Vet and just ask them?

Thanks for reply I put some Neosporin on it today,I hear that cant hurt him if he licks it off.
