Hi! I adopted my cat a couple pf months ago and I would like to know his mix. Im pretty sure he has some persian in his bloodline but can't figure out whats his other breed descendance.. Please help!
Yes, its quite probable he has a persian among his recent ancestors. But the other ancestors we cant know, not even by wild guessing.
Another alternative may be recent british shorthair ancestors. . Now, the British are seldom medium / longhaired (although it happens), so it went probably a generation with mixing inbetween. British granddad x longhair love mate, the shorhaired offspring but now carrier of the longhaired gene met another longhaired gene carreir - shorthaired or longhaired.
And voila, there you do have your boy.
The third alternative is,
he could already NOW be a british, of pet quality, but as said, pure british with medium /longhair hair are rare. They DO exist, and recently they were even recognized as a sister breed, but they are pretty rare. And the purebred sister breed of longhaired british - are rare too, because there are not so many breeders of them.
And if he were purebred from one of these few breeders of longhaired british, but sold cheaply as being of pet quality, you would probably know it. Buyers of pure bred cats usually know what they do have, even if they dont bother much about certificates and such.
So it depends a little on the exact background history. WAS there a honest chance people you adopted from could / should know??
ps. The most probable he is a persian-mix, but you asked for possible alternatives, no?
As said, the other significant to a persian ancestor, we cant know. Could be almost any, as long it was a carrier of medium/long hair gene.
