Noticed this spot on my cats back. Can't get into a vet until next week.

Hi . wow 😲
I don't know. This is not a cure, but try putting some unflavored store bought chamomile tea (garden grown is not safe for cats) on it. It's anti fungal and anti bacterial.
Also coconut oil is antimicrobial. Both will ease any discomfort and are safe if your cat licks it.

Poor kitty! Can‘t answer your question, but first thought was “allergy.” Do you mind telling us what your cat eats? Also, has it recently been exposed to anything unusual…lavender oil or new kinds of cleaning products? Ultimately you need a vet answer so Furball’s mom is right: try to make your kitty as comfortable as you can ‘til you get there!
