Last Saturday, Simone's eye was really watery and gooey and halfway closed. She allowed me to wipe it, indicating it wasn't painful and I began to give her and her brother L-Lysine (his eyes were watery last week and one eye was watery again on Sunday). Simone's eye has gotten much better, but she still has brown crusts in the corner and brown on her lower lid. Is this a URI or herpes outbreak that I can control with L-lysine, or does she need to go to the vet in fear she may lose her vision? Thanks cat Luvers!

If the goop is just brown, I don't think you've got a problem. You want to look for green or yellow gunk coming from the eyes, the third eyelid showing, eyes not opening widely, rubbing of the eyes, hair loss around the eye. Continue giving them the Lysine. Most likely it's just airborne allergies and irritation, but if you see any of the above symptoms, then they need to go to the vet.
