Just under two weeks ago our little Arthur was hit by a car and he has damage to his rear end.
He is fighting. We rescued him 9 months ago and he is so loveable.
X-rays were inconclusive if his spine was severed or just suffering nerve damage. He has a broken pelvis. His back two legs and his tail were completely limp and he didn't appear to have any feeling there. The vets weren't hopeful and give him till 1 that day to see if there was any improvement.
We felt heart broken and thought we were going to lose him but he did react when the vet touched his leg and that bought him some more time.
Since then he looks like his normal self, nice bright eyes and he's eating as normal and seems happy. He drags his back legs behind him when he moves around the pen we have put him in.
We are having to empty his bladder and shower him down there but we're happy to do that. Last week the vet was saying that he wanted see if Arthur had control of his bladder and if he could poo.
A couple of days later he pulled himself into his litter tray and did a poo. We thought it was a miracle. However he hasn't done that since but poo has come out of him which we've cleaned away.
On the positive side he started to respond last week when I touched one of his paw pads, I did this when he was relaxed and when I did it he turned round as if to say "I felt that!"
We have started giving him some physio. "Cycling" his legs around and we've been able to feel pulsing sensations in his legs and saw his paws move slightly and slowly at the weekend.
The vet said on Friday that he has regained some feeling at the top of his tail (near his bottom). So that's another positive too.
We think he is doing really well but the vet is quite negative although I do believe he is a very good vet.
Last night he sprayed pee when we were cleaning him. I can't help but think this is another good sign as surely he wouldn't be able to do that if he had no muscle control in that area.
Can anybody provide any comments or advice to help me and Arthur.
Thank you.
