Help....my Cat Had Kittens Last Night.....

My cat had kittens last night....I was there to help her. Today she wont nurse them unless I'm by her side. I will leave her in my room and close the door and she stands by the door meowing till I come in beside her. What is going on? I'm scared she wont mother the kittens.

She will. She just needs reassurance for a day or two. This is not uncommon in first-time, inexperienced mother cats.

Sit with her long enough for her to nurse a full session with the kittens, say 20-30 minutes, every couple of hours today.

Also, bring her food, water, and litter box into the room as well. Offer her a special treat, and praise her.

She should settle down in the next 48 hours.
