I picked up a cat in my town a couple of months ago, I'm curious what breed he might be, and possibly how old?

Your cat should be a domestic short hair bi-color. Put it briefly, it is not of a particular breed but a cat with no clear ancestry.

This particular type of bi-color is called for Harlequine, black on top of the head, black tail, and also some spots on the backside... The breed as such is surely domestic. A prettie to make his new owner proud!
