Hi all,
I wonder if anyone has advice for big boy Phineus here. I trapped him right outside my house when he showed up in and was rejected by my little feral colony. His eyes are severely infected. He is a feral, or so I think. I'm not 100% on that yet given his fragile state but hopefully he's friendly.
He is scheduled for "emergency" surgery this Tuesday morning, so he's waiting a week as if he's not been through enough. I don't have much choice and I'm grateful to the rescue who are stepping up for him! It's just a shame. He's been prescribed painkillers and antibiotics in the meantime.
The issue? He does not seem to be eating much and has diarrhea, presumably parasites. He mostly likes dried friskies, and I've only gotten him to eat perhaps one Pillpocket with his antibiotics in. He does take the painkiller now if I give him it on a tiny piece of tuna but I'm wondering if anyone has ideas as he needs to maintain his strength for the big day. Is there anything a vet could do in the meantime to get him through the next couple of days?
I just bought some Fancy Feast to see if that won't tempt him as I figure he must be feeling awful. Maybe the medicine is making him feel groggy?
Also, his diagnosis - 2 years old.
Left eye: Severe entropion blepharospasm. Cannot visualize globe. Needs to be enucleated (removed)
Right eye: Severe corneal ulceration, small rupture. Heavy discharge. Needs entropion repair.
We're in NY if that makes a difference.
