We're new here! Although Im not a new cat owner, we have been "catless" for quite a while. I had cats all my life, but when I got married and moved out, my family couldnt bear my cats leaving with me, so they managed to become my parents cats. Thats going on 7 years ago now, but seems like yesterday. We just added a kitten to our family, and although I have a good basic idea of what to do, I came here to make sure im up to snuff of all the latest information in cat ownership. Im certainly no stranger to pets, we show AKC chihuahuas and horses, its just been a long time catless here.
Our kitten is from a barn that had their pregnant mom dropped off, and they intended to take the kittens to the shelter when they hit 8 weeks (this week). We found out and decided to bring "Crusher" home. We've been waiting to get my son a pet as hes finally old enough to take responsibility to help feed and brush. He has autism, and they also recommended getting him a pet of his own, not one of mine (if that makes sense).
Crusher is an 8 week old male super fluffy long coat kitten, ad hes extremely social and lovable. Overall he seems healthy (though will be in to see the vet for his shots and wellness visit) but is what you would expect from a stray barn kitten. No signs of any URI that barn cats usually have, so thats a relief. Hes thin - I can easily feel ribs, backbone, and hips. They just fed the cheapest economy cat food from a feed store, and free fed everyone together so I assume not everyone got their fairshare. He has a potbelly, Im sure from worms. I did deworm him with safeguard tonight, as he has never been dewormed and it will be a few days until his vet visit. We have a good quality dry food for him (I wasnt sure if he would eat canned, and while he nibbles a little, he doesnt eat it well yet) and also canned .
Anyway, sorry for the long story, I just wanted to let you know a little about me and "Crusher" (my son named him after a skylander character)
