Hello Shrimp lover! I am new here just joining a day or two ago. I also joined another group PC which I reconginze your name from. I go by 1Cleopatra there. The other group is more breed specific which is good in case you have a question or concern regarding that specific breed but I also like this group because its for all cats in general. The more the merrier!

Since I did not see it happen.

But I did see a largish brown thing swim over, and with the binos it was
much bigger than a mink..which we have lots of.

It could have been an otter too. When Oreo was younger she was daring
and always into mischief!

She had two bites on her tail and her tail was yanked hard enough to
severely damage the nerves -- She came home at 9am crying..
I luckily had some Clavamox left over from Tippy's last tooth cleaning,
and some Prednisolone for Sheba... so I medicated her...I knew the doses.
The Pred cut the pain quite a bit, and the bites did not fester.. lucky lucky.

When we got home a few days later, the vet said she obviously went UP to
escape whatever it was. I went into town, and asked the experienced locals, and that is when I was told the fisher story...We had never known, or seen one. We live on a 14 acre island which is a mile + away from land and it is not common for animals to swim over. We see bears swim, and the deer do it alot, but other than otters and mink...nothing else. The fishers were so bold in town, they go on people's porches, and try to get to dog/cat food etc. Everyone there thought it was a fisher attack. So I go with the experts.
We do have otters...so she may have spooked a baby and been attacked by a mom otter. But I don't see them often. She is much more reserved NOW...and grown up... I felt really guilty and upset over the whole thing. But this year was tame.

Luckily her tail healed up... the vet said if not in 3mos, it would need amputation...since she could not move it. It was a freaky thing all around. And I hope it never happens again!!! Alone in the middle of nowhere! not a great experience!

Thanks for asking, captiva!
