I wish I'd found this forum sooner--a whole forum devoted to cats! This is a wonderful place, and I look forward to getting to know all of you. A bit about myself: I have a year left of undergraduate work (in History) and I go to college in Southern California. I am also a long-time cat lover. When I was a kid, I spent quite a bit of time asking my parents to let me get a cat. After offering some poor excuses, we adopted a beautiful adult cat. She was four years old, and had a beautiful (short-haired) black and white coat in the tuxedo pattern. She turned my previously apathetic parents into total cat people with her sweetness and loyalty. She used to come and greet people at the door whenever she saw/heard them coming, every single time. She was a truly wonderful cat, but unfortunately we had to put her to sleep last year due to neurological problems. She was almost 15 by that time, and she had been my cat for half of my lifespan. I am truly lucky to have had her.
Another one of my cats is Tiger, who was an "accidental" kitten born to a cat belonging to my sister's friend's family. (They actually thought Tiger's mother was male until she got pregnant. Some people are just clueless and irresponsible.) Tiggy is very shy and gets scared easily, in addition to having a few other neuroses, but she's also very sweet. She's a brown/gray tabby, and she's about 9 years old right now. I love her, but my mom seems to be the only other creature she is completely comfortable with.
While I've been at college, my family adopted an older kitten, who is now a bit less than 2 years old. His name is Sammy, and he has a very playful, sometimes goofy, and very distinct personality. I'm sorry that I'm not able to spend more time with him, but I love hearing what he's up to on the phone. He has medium-length hair which is mostly white, but with dark orange splotches. He's pretty gorgeous, and he totally knows it too.
This brings me to my most recent and most important cat, who just came home with me and my boyfriend today. His name is Alex (Allie for now), and he's a three-month old kitten. Though he is just now settling into his new home, we can tell already that he is very sweet and affectionate. Whenever we're in the room, he's all over us. I'm outside of the room now so that he can have a bit of time to explore by himself and maybe take a nap. I want to give him the best life possible and am very happy to have him with me now. His fur is mostly light tannish with a subtle stripe pattern, and he has gorgeous blue eyes. I look forward to many more cat adventures, and I'm glad to be on a board full of people who love cats as much as I do.
