My parents also raised me to believe that hate is a very strong word and an undesirable emotion. I remember one occassion when I was very young, I told my brother I hated him...my mum gave me a talking to which I've clearly never forgotten!
I'm not sure I've ever hated someone in my life. Sure I've been angry at people or hurt by their actions but I've never hated anyone, and I'm not sure I ever could. There are people in my life who have done awful things to me or the people I love but even still I cannot hate them...their actions perhaps but not the person.
In my mind, the more of your life you give to negative emotions like hate the less room you leave for the positive things in your life. Negative emotions are toxic.
