Okay so I had this cat (a Ragdoll) that had been with me for 9 months before I had to rehome him due to moving out of state soon and going overseas for 3 months. Our nightmare is below....
My cat ( I wish to NOT be contacted by these people, so I will refer to my cat as 'Sam'. That's not his name and not even close but like I said, I do not want to be harassed further by them). Sam* has a medical condition of bladder crystals and recurrent urinary tract infections, this causes Sam* to sometimes urinate on things other than his litter box, this medical condition has been proven by 3 vets so I know that I am not making this up. I got several emails and texts about people wanting Sam*, but after I mentioned the inappropriate peeing and his medical condition all but one person backed out. I wanted to be up front with people and no surprises awaiting for them, anyways after checking a reference number via text and asking about a vet (they said they didn't have one but were looking for one) and asking tons of questions and made them swear to give me back him if they ever couldn't keep him, we made plans one weekend day for them to get him. I charged them $120 (originally asking $185 but they couldn't do that so we agreed on a price of $120), and yes, I am fully aware that that price is technically 'selling' but selling or giving away is all the same; the animal is still being rehomed, purchase fee or not. Anyone that has ever owned a Ragdoll, knows that these are expensive cats. The most money I ever paid for one was from Grand Champion father, from a show breeder, as a show\breeder cat for $1,500 (this is not the same cat). Sam* was from a good, ethical, show breeder and from Champion parents, CFA registered, so I believe $120 was very reasonable - I also gave them his food, food and water bowls, cat litter, toys, all vet records, treats, his collar, etc all basic cat supplies. They had him for 2 months before recently giving me him back, they actually sort of demanded I get him back. I got him back and then they demanded I refund the $120 AND all of the costs they did associated with owning a cat! They never admitted to taking him to the vet so it was never a large cost. He was neutered and front paws declawed by his first owner (I am his second owner) and I updated his booster vaccine and rabies vaccine (required in my state yearly or be given a 3 year rabies vaccine depending on the protocol and the vet) so there was very minimal cost for them.
After I politely declined refunding their money, they fed me a line of total bullsh*t about him being 'oh so difficult' and expensive. Were you expecting a free pet? They kept everything of his except for his food and water bowls. What is the reason to keep vet records on a cat you don't have?
The night I got him back, I immediately knew this was not the same cat I use to know. He use to be so friendly, loving, social, playful, typical Ragdoll personality. This was not so. He was hiding, hissing, growling, and almost whimpering, I tried to pet him after he calmed down some, only for him to lash out and just barely missing my wrist for a bite. Not to mention when I pick him up to let him out of his cat carrier I brought, he scratched me with his back claws and struggled to get free and then jumped out of my arms and fled under my bed (keep in mind this was once the same cat that loved to lounge around my shoulders while I cooked, read, slept, etc). After I got out of the shower that night and was about to go to sleep, I was setting my morning alarm for tomorrow and as I was doing that I got a text from his old owners who just gave me him back and they said (in exactly these words) "That cat was loving on me before he left so maybe its you!!!!!!!". This was 10 o' clock at night! And, they further harassed me. The next day, he let me start to pet him without looking at him (that freaked him out more) and as I was petting him, I noticed a big bruise\mark above his right eye and looking through his fur were streaks\ red marks. By then I had come to the conclusion that they had hit and maybe kicked him. They texted me that night too to say that I am a lier and a deceiving con artist.....ummm how? Do you think that was a con artist action?
Please help.....what should I do?
