HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
:blubturq:
It is. The police are calling us later tonight to let us know the extent. It's a six hour drive so we can't exactly run up there at the drop of a hat. I just hope they haven't touched the photographs... 50 years of photos. I don't know if they'll still be okay, because supposedly all the doors and windows have been broken/kicked in. I guess they did a lot of vandalism and toilet papered the whole place. Probably a bunch of bored people on March break looking for something to do.Originally posted by WillieWZ
Oh, I'm so sorry, Jenn! That's a scary feeling, knowing someone's been in your space. Hope you don't lose anything special.
Thank you, Ghys. It's beyond me too, why they would want to do this. The cottage is a little shack in the woods, with no electricity. It's not the expensive things I'm worried about. I can't replace grandma's pictures, I can't replace great-grandpa's fishing poles, I can't replace all my childhood toys that are there. And to think that somebody just went in there and could have taken it all away just makes me so insanely mad. It's even harder not knowing... it's just weird. Family journals could be flying in the wind right now and there's nothing I can do about it. The papers I learned my ABC's on could be torn and in the snow... wedding photos, construction paper angels. These are the things I want to know are safe. Not the satellite dish, the expensive batteries, the TV. The family stuff, you know? And then I keep beating myself up, saying "I should have brought that home last fall!"... but I guess it's true when they say hindsight is always 20/20.Originally posted by Whisker's mom
OMG - that is sooooo sad. I hope the photographs are not damaged. Darn people. *geesh* What is it with some of them? They get their thrills out of destroying property and belongings of people that have worked hard for everything they have. I don't understand.......probably never will.
What a way to spend your birthday.
So sorry..... (((HUGS)))
Hang in there!
Thanks, Laurie. We have to see when my dad can get time off work so we can get up there. Thankfully, we have all the family stuff scattered between 3 cabins on the lot. So even if they hit all three cabins, some of the stuff should be surviving. I hope. This is the the third time we've been robbed up there, but Jason said it's never been "this bad". And it's been pretty bad before...Originally posted by LDG
Aw Jen, I'm so so sorry to hear this! I was all excited to say Happy Birthday - but now it sounds so flat. My heart aches for you. I had my apartment broken into in NY. The worst of all is not just that you lose things that are valuable to you (whether sentimental or otherwise), but that you feel violated. It's a terrible thing to have to go through.
We'll miss you and be thinking of you!!!!

Yeah, you're right, they can't sell it. I just always think the worstOriginally posted by valanhb
That's just awful! Like the rest of you, it is just beyond my comprehension why someone would do that. I hope all your personal stuff is OK. It's not something that can be sold, so hopefully they didn't touch it. I hope the police catch whoever did this and can recover your stuff. You're right, though. It's those sentimental family things that are the real valuables.
