My second sister-in-law, Florence, lives in Singapore. She is a city girl. Somehow, she just loves pigs, and collects anything "piggy" - she has pig ornaments, soft toys, stickers, etc, etc.
Here in Germany, pigs are considered good luck. Instead of rabbits' feet (uggh!), some people carry little pig figures, and you find them on a lot of greeting cards. People say "Glücksschwein" (Glück = happiness/luck, Schwein = pig (swine)). I really don't know why. I've always thought it was because people considered themselves lucky if they had a big fat pig in the sty during times of famine.
