Halloween is that wonderful holiday when we can be something or someone different. Creating a costume that startles, scares, or amuses is fun. I had friends who came up with unusual costumes. One year they were beer cans. They discovered too late they couldn't sit down. Another year they were giant packs of cigarettes. For some reason, no one would talk to them. The funniest was a guy who was a champagne bottle. He had a bubble machine blowing out of the top of his head.

If you went to a Halloween costume party, what or who would you be?

I might put on a business suit, carry a briefcase that says IRS (Internal Revenue Service) and say "I'm from the IRS. I'm here to help you." That ought to scare the bejabbers out of anyone!

Alternatively, I might be Macavity from Cats.

I would love to be a slithery, hissing snake.

Maybe being myself is scary enough.

Trick or treat!

My two favorite costumes I have worn were Hester Prynn from the "Scarlet Letter" and Medusa. When I dressed as Hester, my daughter, who was seven at the time, went as Pearl. It was hilarious. For Medusa, I coiled most of my hair (I have very long hair), making the coils in various degrees of looseness so that it looked like snakes.
