hair falling out in clumps...

I recently adopyed a long haired cat who's hair was all tangled and knotted up. I cut most of the knots off, but lately his hair is falling out in big clumps. his neck below his face is bald, and he has another large bald spot on his stomach and at the base of his tail. I have never seen anything like this before. Anyone have any Ideas?

It sounds like a flea allergy, but could be a general allergy, skin infection, or fungal infection. I would get an appt for the vet to take a look, and take care of it asap.

Well I went to the vet today and got some flea drops for him. Hopefully this will work. The people I got him from told me he didn't have fleas. He is a really beautiful cat too. I hope his hair grows back, lol.
