Cotton's a huge baby and usually just curls up in our laps or in front of the furnace and sleeps...except when he comes to bed. Both cats sleep on the bed (when they feel like it) but the minute Cotton comes up there he 'bulks up' just gets a little fluffier, has a bit more shoulder roll in his walk and likes to sleep between everyone and the door. He just looks so big and serious and well...alpha male, which is SO not a description of Cotton. He's one cat who seems quite happy to acknowledge that everyone in the house outranks him.
He doesn't growl or anything (unless there's a really loud noise outside), he doesn't bother Freya in the least (he'll leave the room if she swats at him), but he gives off the distinct impression that he's guarding the bedroom at night. He also stalks around the room once each night before crawling into bed and if you get up he follows you and waits until you go back to bed, then resumes his between-everyone-and-the-door spot.
So...is it possible that he's guarding us?
