My sweet Cinders was sent over RB today, victim of renal failure. Sweet Princess, she was my best hunter/pest control & through the past 14 years she helped me through the losses of a divorce, my job, a nephew, a brother, my father, 2 horses, 3 dogs and numerous cats. She had a good long run despite a rough start in life.
In 2000, Cindy was discarded along with several other kittens and cats at the Coso Rest Area on U.S. 395. How clearly I remember her as a kitten (after the others were rescued) - a little starvling, a skinny but sleek, black mini-jaguar, looking longingly at the cottontail rabbits playing on the rest area's lawn. It took me 2 years to finally catch her, when she was so emaciated and weak that I was able to toss a towel over her & scoop her up & into a box.
Once spayed & vaccinated & rehydrated, she transformed into a loving, grateful, talkative and affectionate lap cat. As if in gratitude, she became a master simbon - effectively clearing our rural yard of snakes, rodents, scorpions, vinegaroons, and many spiders. Most of her "prizes" were generously offered to the household.
Godspeed, dear Cinder Cone - you have earned a good reward. May you find many angels to shower you with love, now that I cannot. The comfort that you gave me as we grieved together over losses past is with me still.....
