Hi guys! Haven't been on here a lot lately (that time of year you know - things are crazy!). Anyways, I have just taken in my very first foster ever. I have been around cats and owned cats the better part of the past 35 years, but I have never ever fostered. This is new to me and I'm not exactly sure about the whole thing yet. I'm not sure how I"m going to deal with strangers coming to my house to meet cats first of all. Also I kinda have two other things on my mind -
1) Am I going to be able to let a foster go? I seem to become too attached to these little guys. I even cried when I had to let a little girl I had last year go and she had only been with me for 2 weeks and had bit me so hard I had to go to the hospital.
2) What happens if nobody wants one of your fosters? I love cats - alot! but I have visions of having a house full of cats that don't get adopted fast enough. We have 4 of our own and I just don't want to wind up with 10 or more.
Also, I was a little taken back at the foster home I got him from. She gave him to me because he was acting too much like a cat.
She said she's a dog person, but takes in all these fosters and this one is just acting too much like a cat. So I inquired how so and she said he's on the tables, he knocks things down, he has to be around the sink when she's washing up or brushing her teeth, keeps her up at night. I thought that's what all cats did. Mine do at least. She said he was driving her nuts. I guess I just don't get how a dog lover who isn't too keen on cats is a foster home for cats.
Anyways, I was just wondering how other foster homes handle it. Looking for advice, pointers, etc.
As for my new little guy - he's definitely a "cat" as the lady put it. He's a cutie, but I think he's got ADHD....
He is a wild little guy, but no more than expected for his age I guess, he's 10months old. (Also was not happy at all about his first night having to be spent alone.....he "bellowed" most of the night.
