Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
The focus was on her systolic. Both systolic and diastolic were high, but it was getting that 200 systolic down to something reasonable that was the main issue. Gary and I were worried it was too low, but on the current dose, it seems to have normalized at around 120 over 72 in her arm, and 140 over 68 in her leg. The difference between locations (her arm and her leg) has remained pretty consistent too LOL.

HCM is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: heart disease.

As to the vets, we work with three vets at different vet practices. :dk: Just worked out that way. There's the local vet. We've worked with them for 11 years, and they do all routine stuff, all our TNR, and they've been invaluable to us with our rescue work. Until our current vet joined the practice, we weren't particularly enamored with any of the vets, and one of them was almost responsible for Flowerbelle's death when she was first rescued.

Because of that situation, in fact, we went to the 2nd vet in our arsenal for a 2nd opinion. He's 45 min away vs 10, but a brilliant, intuitive, willing-to-do research kind of guy. :heart3: He saved Tuxedo's life when Tuxie had a puzzling immune disease. It required such intense treatment we actually moved out of the RV and into a house so we'd be just 10 min away from that vet practice. We lived there and worked with them for all our rescue/TNR stuff for... four years.

Life stuff made us give up the house, and move back into the RV. So with TNR, you're not driving 45 min when you can drive 10 LOL. Thankfully, the vet we work with now had joined the practice since we'd lived here, so she's our "kitty seems.." vet (kitty seems lethargic or kitty seems constipated, etc), and regular vet for several of our cats. Stan, at the other practice, is Flowerbelle's and Tuxedo's vet.

When we rescued Chumley in 2010, neither Bethany nor Stan was able to help us resolve his allergies/overgrooming/chronic diarrhea. He's FIV positive, and they're both FIV-literate, but IMO, it just wasn't something easily addressed by western medicine. So we found a holistic vet, and we told both Stan and Bethany we were going to pursue alternative treatment. And we really like this vet too.

So depending on the cat and the issue, we decide which vet to go to. We often follow-up with a different vet if we want a 2nd opinion. Flowerbelle, Lazlo and Chumley see all 3, and we keep their records current at each one, and they all know about each other.

So for just getting Flowerbelle's BP tested, we go to the local vet. Her heart murmur was found by the holistic vet (also 45 min away, just the other direction from Stan). When we knew there were other issues than hairballs and constipation, the reason we took her to the holistic vet in the first place, we took her to see her vet (Stan). And when we need just BP follow-up, she sees Bethany (local vet), because there's no need to drive 45 min for just that. And all her vitals are automatically sent to the other two.

Long answer, sorry. :lol3:
