Does anyone here have any experience with flat chested kitten syndrome?
If you feel the kitten is doing well - breathing well, progressing the same as the other kittens, I'd run it by my vet, but wait until 6 weeks. I would let your vet be your guide re both this condition and whether or not this kitten also has a heart murmur. Please keep in mind, that unless someone posting here identifies themselves as a vet or a vet tech, and even then...there is no substitute for your vet and a hands on examination.Originally Posted by megmar6853
The kitten feels like it has about one half of an inch between its ribcage. I have never felt another kitten before with it but it does feel severe. I have done some research in the last hour on it and I think the kitten will be fine. Most kittens with this condition die before three weeks, they have difficulties breathing, are thin, and are not strong. My kitten does not have any of these. He is very strong, fat and his breathing is normal. He is also almost five weeks old.
Do you think that he needs to go to the vet now? I was going to wait until they are six weeks so they have have their first round of shots.
I am never going to use the same stud again. One of the other kittens in the litter died from a heart murmor when it was one week old.
I saw in Cyberkittens post that they do surgery for heart murmors. The vet told me that you cannot preform heart surgery on a kitten one week old. Do you know if this is true?
