I am so proud of Lucky!!! I had been training her to walk on a harness for the last week or so... Nothing special; I would just put her harness on, and let her play around for an hour or so a day, Just so she would know how to walk on it. Well, today I took the plunge and took her outside. I live in a building that has an "inside" garden, so its perfect for her, as it is still somewhat confined...
I was expecting her to just freeze, and not go anywhere - ohhh no sir! She got right up to explore. Sure, she did give me a few of those coarse, frightened meows that says "meowmy, save me!!! can't you see what is wrong with this picture???" Every time she did that I would just pull a little bit on the harness and talk to her very softly, so she new that I was right there to pick her up... When she didn't calm down, I just picked her up...
Anyway - I think she didn't like the grass too much; she kept coming out of it... She walked perfectly straight, and explored all the smells around her - smelled the flowers, checked out the laundry room, tried to jump on other people's windows, etc! The part that surprised me the most, was that she knew exactly where home was; this was actually a relief!
I am so excited - I can't wait to go out with her again tomorrow! I think this will be a great way for her to get some exercise, and to experience new and "wild" things, still having the safety of being a 100% inside cat.
There is a great park close to my house, with plenty of squirrels, ducks, birds, rivers, flowers... That is going to be the next step on the outside adventure - Can't wait!!!!!!
