I've never thought that WV was a "low" cost of living area. I've always thought it was an expensive place to raise a family. Never been there but I base that on what we pay and what others pay to live.Originally Posted by Zoe'n'MissKitty

Cheapest I can find is $2.22....
You know, for such a poor state, WV sure is expensive to live in (relative to the average salary). Next time someone talks about the "low" cost of living here, I am going to strangle them. lol
Groceries, rent, gas, etc are every bit as expensive as in the rest of the US (except major cities, of course). Auto insurance is higher here than in all 5 surrounding states. That gets really bad when you consider that wages here aren't too great. We pay the 13th-highest state income tax, and have the 2nd-to-worst median income. Oh, and our sales tax? 6%. I'd LOVE to know where all that tax money is going...certainly not to state employees. I could go to any other state and make more for doing the exact same job. (Don't tell me to move; I'm already trying to find a city I like! lol)Originally Posted by catherine

An average home in our area is say $125,000 for 1700 sq. 20 year old home. Or upwards of $350,000 for a brand new home with about 2300-2500 sq. feet. Sorry, but I'll take my 25 yr old home and add on to it before I pay the price they want to new ones today!
What's a gallon of milk cost you? I pay $3.29 (I think) A loaf of storebrand bread is .99.
WV IS expensive to live in!! When I first moved to VA, my car insurance dropped almost 50%. I used to live on the border of VA/WV and EVERYTHING was cheaper on the VA side.Originally Posted by Zoe'n'MissKitty
