My ex and I split up in Dec 2011... and nearly 2 years later we're finally divorced I know for some it's a hard experience, and others are just happy to be done. I had to refrain from skipping from the courthouse, decree in hand!
In Dec 2012 he told me he was sending me the paperwork, right after his kid was born. I waited, and waited some more ... never got anything. In August he wanted to talk, accusing me of dragging it out. Um, what? I was just waiting to be sent the documents. By that point we were far into living our own lives anyway. Met with a lawyer and finally signed for the uncontested divorce, my only stipulation was that he refinance the house into his own name asap.
Brought my mom and brother down, since they said I'd need a witness on my side too. Had a nice time with them down - went out to eat on Thursday night, then Friday we went to the courthouse. My ex was making stupid little comments loud enough for us to hear... told his lawyer his 1st wife had no money, but his 2nd one does... Well, considering I was making a lot more than him for awhile, so that's cute. And if his current gf has so much money, I wonder why he's had to sell his "toys" to pay bills, and why he has to pay for the mortgage on her rundown house in a bad part of town (which he tried to rent to me at one point, I looked at it, and decided I wouldn't feel right even leaving an enemy alone there). She sits at home with no intentions of returning to work either. I know he was most likely just trying to get to me, but I was also trying not to laugh too loud when he said that. My mom responded in the same volume that she needed to keep away from him so she didn't rip off anyone's face. Then he said to the lawyer that he could marry the other girl the next day, and his lawyer responded with "Then obviously you didn't learn." :lol3:
The actual hearing went by in about 5 minutes, the judge ordered him responsible for the mortgage and any home related expenses (taxes, insurance, etc), me to be held harmless in the event he ever defaulted, and to refinance the home into his name. He claims he's already started the process, so hopefully it goes through soon since the BF and I want to buy our own in May 2014.
Afterwards my mom, brother, and I met with the BF and went to the USS Yorktown to take them on the ships and sub. I'd been there a few years ago, and the BF went as a kid, so it was fun for all of us. They went off to the outlets and we got on the road to FL for two VW car shows. The first one was Saturday in St. Petersburg (FL didn't get the memo, it was 85ºF, sunny, and I was standing in the Gulf ), then we stayed in Tampa Saturday night before heading to Dade City for the Bug Jam Sunday. I go 2 states away after getting divorced, and my ex is 30 miles away in FL that weekend too!!
So things are great, excited to be "free" and get on with life
