Hey all,

New to the site not to cats. I've worked at and still volunteer at my local Humane Society. My 8.5 year old cat is having mild facial seizures and big hyperaesthesia fits (meds help with the latter). He is a rescue and has been through a lot. He hates gabapintin and it makes him over salivate and vomit. I've recently started him on Prozac and stopped the gaba as it is so bad for his stress to take it and he looks dead in the eyes after. Has anyone experienced these neurological problems with their kitty? He is having more bad days than good. Is there anything I can do to help him or should I let him pass? I want 10 more years but don't want to be selfish and keep him around just for me. Please help!!! I get compounded meds in fish and chicken flavors and he doesn't like those any more than pills mixed into food. I play classical music and have feliway plug ins. I don't know what else to do. He has a sister, toys, cat nip spray/balls, vertical/angled/horizontal scratching posts, trees, multiple foods and water sources. Please help me!!!

Prozac takes a while to start working, sometimes many weeks, i pray it does. My cat has hyperesthesia too and I have tried everything. She is on a calming aide, CBD oil and a supplement for seizures. (I think just another calming aide) she still goes nuts, but not all the time. All her meds go into Delectable Lickables in the stew flavors, you might try that to make it easier. Not a whole packet. As long as he is enjoying life at times, I wouldn't put him down. When he starts to withdraw, hides, and stops eating, THEN you may have to decide. All of us have our problems and most learn ways to deal with it. So will he. Please post if you find anything that works......

He is not that old, and I would not give up yet. I wonder if you could have a discussion with your vet about other medications for seizures. Is it possible to consult with a specialist or have your vet do so?
