I've been to the vet so many times I honestly can't even remember the amount... my guy is just about 6 months old. He was a bottle fed kitty that we found abandoned behind our house. Ever since the day I found him he has had problems with one eye. The vet tested with the dye and looked into it, prescribed the drops and teramycin(? Spelling) several times. He just went through a cycle of the liquid Azythromocin. It worked for about 2 days and he had clear eyes. He is now back to having the third eyelid, watery, and the opaque color to his eye. He tested negative for everything when he was first rescued. Help!

Hi @tristazm,

I know that it would be expensive, but I would take him to an Vet Eye Specialist, if you are able to.

There are just too many things that can be affecting the eye.

I'm not sure if your own regular Vet can do a 'Culture' on the eye discharge and have it sent out, for analysis.

This way, your Vet would know if the antibiotic that they were prescribing was resistant, or not, to any bacteria,...if it actually is bacteria...in your cat's eye.

Your cat is beautiful. I hope you are able to find something that helps him and works.

A second opinion from another Vet might also help, if you are not able to see a Specialist.

I would call other vets up, and ask if they have much experience dealing with eye issues.

Even go to see the Vets in person, ask some questions, and get a feel for the place.

That's exactly what I was going to suggest....an opthamologist for animals.  It' the opagueness that makes me think he needs more specialized care.

Can he SEE out of that eye...do you know?

Thanks! Yes, he can still see out of it and acts like it's not even a problem. He actually is a happy-go-lucky devil in disguise and one of the loudest purrers I've ever been around. The nearest opthamologist that I could find through Google was in Pittsburgh at PVSEC. Their website says they only work on referrals specifically from your vet. I'm definitely going to ask about the culture and continue to ask questions. I have a feeling they think I am a "worrywart" but I want him taken care of. We go Thursday to our vets office and I asked for another vet that specifically sees cats and knows a lot about them.

My plan : 1) Ask for a culture of his eye discharge even though it is watery 2) I want them to do the scan to see if it is swollen or anything behind it in a dark room, not the lighted exam room 3) A referral to a speciality vet if it does not get resolved
