Oh my. I hope she makes it, too! Poor Otter. Can you ask the vet about giving her sub-q fluids at home? It'll be a small cost (relatively speaking) and will keep her hydrated.
Just said to keep her hydrated. I still have Laxatone, but I am afraid to give that to her at this point. Weruva has a moist food that is a chicken/pumkin mix, so I have been feeding that to her when feeding time comes around.
Oh no! Your poor little thing. Did they give you any suggestions on how to help her go poop?
I was given an estimate by the doctor who was at the ERVet and it was $638 (IV + overnight stay + second xray +something else I cant remember)(and sadly, this was the cheapest ER vet that was not five hours away). I already had to pay for the initial visit plus first xray which was $293. They gave Otter the SQ fluid on their behalf. My personal vet has $200+ credit from me, and they will allow me to pay when I get paid again, but they do not open for another 7 and a half hours.Have you tried talking to the local Humane Society or ASPCA? They often have a bit of money set aside for cases such as yours.
After I lost my job, we had an emergency with one of my cats (squashed in the recliner, broken nose), and they donated $100 for a vet visit. The approval process was short, just a phone interview with the office manager about our situation. They then gave me a choice of 3 approved vets to see. We were on our way to the vet within an hour and our visit went on their account. It is worth a try, and would be enough money for an office visit and possibly an enema, if needed.
Oh, and the SubQ bump is fine. It takes the body a while to gradually absorb all the liquid. Sometimes, they can be there for up to 24 hours. If you like, you can very gently rub it to help disperse the liquid more evenly under the skin. I will say a prayer for you and Otter!
You're doing everything you possibly can then. Please keep us updated. You're a good mom.She licked an ice cube and ate a few pieces of dry. Her next feeding is..well now..hold on.......which she is currently eating. My vet doesn't open for another 8 hours and 34 minute (I have a timer). The ER vet cannot do any more treatment because of no money. She was going to get an enema when I first took her to be on the safe side, but like I said they had to stop treatment.
I also apologize. I forget most people to think of a regular vet first when it comes to finance talks.Happy poop dance!
Sorry, I misunderstood and thought you were tapped out at the regular vet. The ER vet has taken my last penny more times than I care to admit! I hope your visit to the vet goes well tomorrow.
