I stopped by the PetSmart near my home - not the one where I volunteer - and the staff knows me by sight, etc.
Anyway, I go into the cat adoption area to visit.. and this other woman comes in. We start out having a nice little chat about kitties and the subject came around to wet v. dry. I said I thought in general wet was better for digestion, b/c of protein v/s filler - per the info I have learned here.
She said, well, I beg to disagree but hey that's life.
I figured, ok. I went to wash my hands and when I came back and tried talking to her again, man.... she went off on me. "PLEASE DON'T TALK TO ME, MA'AM!!!!!! YOU'RE INTERFERING WITH ME INTERACTING WITH THE CATS. I JUST WANT TO INTERACT WITH THE CATS!!!! LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!!"
I SAID, I'M SORRY, I WAS JUST.....
"I SAID, YOU'RE BOTHERING ME!!!! YOU ARE KEEPING ME FROM TALKING TO THE CATS. LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!! YOU NEED TO LEAVE!!!!!"
I said, I am sorry you have a problem...
"IIIIIIII DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM YYYOOOOOOOOOUUUU HAVE A PROBLEM.!!!!!!
I should have known not to get into it with someone who was obviously unstable, but after a few more exchanges and a threat from her to "call the manager" and what... have me tossed from the store, I guess... I walked to the front.
I was about to tell the head cashier,Maureen, about this woman when the woman came barreling up, shouting, "Oh NO you don't, Oh NO, you don't! I want to speak to the manager!!!!!!!!"
I said , I'm going to go, thinking I don't want this to escalate b/c this woman seems emotionally distraught.
But it upset me. So I called the store when I got home. Maureen told me the manager came up and did the Uh-huh, head-nodding routine while the woman vented and that was that. I said I want you to know nothing happened. That a simple conversation quickly escalated into something totally crazy. Maureen said, I know that, don't worry.
I don't know this person's name, but I am thinking I should give that rescue, called Guardian Angels, a heads-up or should I just drop it? BTW, she said she had tried to adopt from the rescue that was there before and didn't have any luck. Gee, I wonder why?
