Hello, this is my first post here and i'm hoping someone has experienced this and can give some insight! Here's the story:
We got Newt when he was 5 weeks and he had a pretty bad ear mite infestation. The vet cleaned him up and prescribed medicine and everything and we hd to clean his ears twice a week. It wasn't getting better and the vet had a closer look and saw that the gunk in his ears was so deep and said he would get it all out when we neutered him at 6 months old.
Newt had his surgery last week and the vet found no mites, and there was no bacteria infection found. He gave us antibiotic ear drops anyway. They also accidently BROKE his eardrum when cleaning. Since the surgery the ear buildup has been 10x worse, pretty much just as bad as when we first got him. For example, the vet cleaned him, and 2 days later we had to again, and now after 1 day it looks just as bad. The vet only gave us more ear mite medicine but I don't understand why since he could find no mites. It's very frustrating because little newt hates when we clean his ears and he hates his ear drops. The plus side is, he seems not bothered at all having gunk in his ears. No scratching and only head shaking after we clean them. He also seemed to have better hearing since the vet cleaned him during his surgery since his meows have gotten quieter.
Sorry for such a long post, I just thought the details would be important! Thanks for anyone with any advice or insight! I trust my vet but its getting really expensive and difficult not having any answers.
TLDR: massive brown ear buildup, not mites and not bacteria infection.
