The parents were with the child and knew what he was doing. The parents probably had seen the other 4 Saw movies, and most likely the kid had seen them as well. The kid was probably mature enough to know that it's just a movie. I don't think it's desensitizing at all. If the kid is mature enough to know what is real and fake, then he's old enough to watch these movies.

What makes society filled with juvenile delinquents is the parents that don't care what their child does, and the child does whatever he or she wants. At least these parents were with their child and probably knew what their child could handle. We all don't know this family, or about this kid. He could probably handle this type of movie and had seen them before. We're just basing our opinions of bad parenting based on what we can see in a movie theater.

I hardly think watching a horror movie turns kids into juvenile delinquents.
As for the slapping, I'm more inclined to think that would show children that violence is acceptable. What a mixed message to send to children. I'd rather sit in a movie theatre with them and enjoy a fantasy than give them violence messages.

Let's see, at around that age I saw the first of many horror series, including Friday the 13th, all 3 of the original Omen movies, as well as My Bloody Valentine, Happy Birthday to Me, The Shining, and The Exorcist.

I'm ok, non-violent and everything.
I can't watch those movies these days, but as a kid, I lived for the thrill of horror movies.

Well then, does it depend on the "type" of horror movie? As another poster said, movies such as the "Freddie" series are tame compared to the blood/guts/gore film-makers are using today. When did extreme blood/guts/gore become scary? IMO, the scariest movie ever made is "The Exorcist" and there's no blood/guts/gore. The best "teen slasher" movie has to be the original "Halloween"; again, there's really no blood/guts/gore.

I think film-makers are just pushing the envelope to see how far they can go and not get an X rating. Honestly, I don't think the 'Saw' movie are particularly scary; gross-yes, scary-no. I wouldn't take my 10 y/o to see anything like that----it's rated R for a reason.

Yes, actually what you have stated above is exactly what I meant. I have no issue with scary movies. As I said PG rated, some A rates I would have absolutely no problem letting my kid watch. Itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s the extreme violence that I would feel uncomfortable letting my kid watch.

I had to revive this thread because my fiance and I just went and Saw V today. We were already in the theater, and three adults come walking with not only a little girl who look approximately FOUR, but also an infant in a carrier. I couldn't believe my eyes. This little girl was so young, and she was carrying a little stuffed animal. At the beginning of the movie, she was sitting on one side of the table (it's a place called Chunkys, a restaurant/theater in one) but the movie started and she ran to the other side to sit next to her mother. I couldn't believe it. IMO, at 10 years old, a child knows the difference between fake and real, right and wrong. At 4 years old, I don't think the child knows the difference. Yes, the parents (i would imagine those were them) were with her, but 4 years old is WAY too young to see that type of movie. I could hear her keep talking through it, and I also heard the baby wake up and start crying at one point. The mother must've quieted the baby, cause I don't think I heard him or her again. This little girl is about the same age as my fiance's niece, and I would never even think about bringing her to see this type of movie in a theater. I guess if the parent's know the child and know she can handle this type of movie, let her watch it at home, but not in a theater.

I do think it depends on the child, the relationship with their parents, and whether they realize it is not real and just a movie for starters.

I am one of those parents who lets their children watch horror flicks too

My oldest son, Justice I didn't let him watch them and honestly, the child is scared of his own shadow!
No joke. He will not walk down the hallway in the dark if his life depended on it and he's almost 11 and knows for a fact, that a movie is just a move... it's all fake.

Now, Deacon, who is almost 7, I let watch them from 2 yrs old! He loves horror movies and matter of fact, he thinks Halloween is better then Christmas

He is generally a good kid (besides normal 7yr old antics) and honestly doesn't have a violent bone in his body

I don't think ANYBODY should watch the "Saw" movies -- or anything else that encourages the low, reptilian impulses that cause us to find senseless brutality entertaining.

A good, scary horror film is one thing; outright perversion is something else entirely. How come so many parents recognize that children should be protected from pornography, but they have no problem with extreme violence?

To be honest, I think the Saw films are stupid. I really don't see any point in them or anything considered horror anymore. I think people should feel ashamed of wasting their time and money on something so stupid.

You'd be surprised how many people will get stupid movies then complain that it wasn't any good.

If you want good fantasy horror - read a book.
